Mike Almereyda= Least Favorite

After watching all the Hamlet videos, I concluded that Mike Almereyda's was my least favorite. I thought the use of language in modern times sounded odd ,and didn't fit into the script. Also, the marriage between Claudius and Gertrude is extremely unlikely to happen in the 21 century. For these reasons, I was immediately disappointed in the movie.

Franco Zeffirelli

My choice for the best on screen portrayal of Hamlet is Franco Zeffirelli's. Many factors contributed to my choice. First, the setting of the opening scene immediately set the mood for the movie. The mysterious dark  castle at midnight triggered a suspenseful feeling that grabbed my attention right off the bat. Next, the music contributed to setting the dark and ominous tone of the midnight watch. Also, the actors were extremely convincing in their use of Shakespearean language. Their costumes, and appearance made it believable that they were in 12th century Denmark. Lastly, seeing Hamlet at his fathers burial helped lock us into the anger, and disappointment Hamlet feels for Claudius and Gertrude. Although we only watched a few minutes of the movie, I was very impressed and would love to see more.
